Meyer earns SLIAC POY honors, six other recognized
After a successful season in which the Griffins won a share of their conference championship, Fontbonne was well represented with St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) post-season accolades. Seven Griffins were honored by the SLIAC with a couple players receiving multiple honors.
Fontbonne senior Zach Meyer earned SLIAC Player of the Year, First Team All-Conference and SLIAC All-Tournament Team honors. Meyer led the conference in scoring with 18 goals and two assists for 38 points. Meyer became only the third player in Fontbonne history to win the SLIAC Player of the Year honor.
Griffin senior Josh Schulz earned SLIAC First Team All-Conference, SLIAC All-Tournament Team and SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Team honors. Schulz led the team in assists with seven while finishing third in goals with six.
Other First-Team All-Conference representatives were senior goalkeeper Ryan Essenpreiss and senior defender Joe Tibbles. This was the second straight year Tibbles was named to the SLIAC First Team.
Fontbonne junior midfielder Tim Menzel was named to the Second Team after finishing the season with four goals and three assists. Seniors Taylor Pratte and Justin Williams were named to the SLIAC Honorable Mention Team.
Fontbonne finished the season 13-7-1 overall and 8-1 in the SLIAC. The Griffins won a share of their sixth conference championship in school history and their first since 2008.
Fontbonne head coach Brian Hoener was named SLIAC Coach of the Year for the fifth time in his career. He has won the award four times as a men's coach and once as a women's coach.
