Conway, Ark. - Senior Aaron Pavese scored the only goal for the Griffins over the weekend, and it was his first collegiate goal of his career. Pavese's header from Tim Varnum's corner kick put the Griffins on the board first against Rhodes College, but Rhodes would score twice in the second half to secure the win.
Senior goalkeeper Joey Mirth made eight saves, trying to give an edge for the Griffin offense. Rhodes dominated possession, with 27 total shot attempts compared to Fontbonne's six.
On Saturday, Fontbonne opened play against Hendrix, falling 1-0 with the lone goal in the first half with just over a minute to play. The Griffins got off 10 shots, with only three on goal. Hendrix totaled 15 shot attempts with five directed towards the goal. The Griffins couldn't capitalize on their 6-3 corner kick advantage. Mirth saved four shots for Fontbonne.
Over the weekend, Pavese, Nate Spiess and Devin Arand were named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Griffins return home for a five-game home stand beginning with Simpson College on Tuesday at 7pm.
