Fontbonne soccer realigns head coaching staff
St. Louis, Mo. - A change in coaching for both the Fontbonne University men's and women's soccer teams will take place for the upcoming seasons. During the past four years, Brian Hoener has been the head coach for both teams. Backed by Director of Athletics, Maria Eftink, Hoener will step down as the men's head coach, focusing on his family and the women's team.
Hoener has had an extremely successful career at Fontbonne, having compiled a 155-107-33 men's record and 42-31-6 women's record for an overall coaching record of 197-139-39 during his 15-year and 19-season tenure. The men's team has qualified for the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Tournament each eligible season and has been to the National Tournament three times. On the men's side, Hoener has coached six SLIAC Players of the Year, garnished four Coach of the Year awards and coached 46 All-Conference players who total a combined 75 All-Conference awards. In his short four-year stint as the Fontbonne women's coach, he has been SLIAC Coach of the Year twice and coached 13 All-Conference players who have garnished 21 All-Conference awards. In just his second year coaching the women, Hoener led the team to their first regular season Conference Championship.
Associate head coach Ricky Andrews will take over at the helm for the men's team. Andrews will assist the women's team while Hoener will assist the men. Andrews played at Harris-Stowe State University garnishing All-American honors. He's also played for the St. Louis Steamers and St. Louis Ambush organizations and has coached club teams of all ages.
