SLIAC Men's Soccer Preseason Poll Released
St. Louis, Mo. - The Fontbonne University men's soccer team was selected to finish in fourth place in their conference according to the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Coaches Preseason Poll. The Griffins were picked behind preseason favorite Westminster College and Webster University and Spalding University who both tied in second place.
Last season the Griffins finished 8-14 overall and 6-3 in conference play, earning a fourth-place regular-season finish. In 2014, the team made their 12th consecutive trip to SLIAC postseason play, knocking off No. 1-seeded Webster in the first round, but falling to defending Champion Westminster in the finals.
First year head coach Ricky Andrews looks to continue Fontbonne men's soccer tradition by leading the Griffins back to the SLIAC Tournament. Fontbonne graduated scoring-threat Tim Menzel, but looks to seniors Alex Platipodis, Nate Spiess and Devin Arand to settle down and lead the youthful squad this year. Fontbonne opens the 2015 season at the Volgas Memorial Classic hosted by Rhodes College. The Griffins' first-pitch standoff will be against University of the Ozarks on Sept. 5th and Austin College on Sept. 6th in Memphis, Tenn.
