Fenton, Mo. - After a scoreless first half, five Griffins contributed in three second-half goals to lift Fontbonne men's soccer over Big Bend rival Webster University Saturday night. The win is the sixth in a row and the fourth shutout for the Griffins who are now 7-9-1 on the year. It's also the sixth straight conference win as Fontbonne is now 6-1 in SLIAC play and second in the standings behind Spalding University (7-0).
Ryan Dudley scored the game winner from senior Ryan Curran in the 63rd minute and 10 minutes later Corey Schmidt gave the Griffins a two point lead. The goal was Dudley's fourth of the season andsecond game winner. Fontbonne senior Alex Smith assisted Nick Wolf's fourth goal of the year as Fontbonne concluded their scoring escapade in the 86th minute. Junior Tony Pitaro recorded his sixth save in net for the Griffins.
In a low-shooting contest, the Griffins edged Webster 9-6 in shots while Pitaro saved the only Gorlok shot on net. Five of Fontbonne's nine shots were on target with the Griffins also beating the corner kick advantage 5-2.
Fontbonnne is at home for their final two games of the regular season, taking on Westminster at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25th and Principia on Saturday, October 29th at 3 p.m.
