Prior to the game, the team honored its seniors Blake Smugala, Marc Roellig, Brendan Kopff, Brett Pahl, Max Kirkpatrick, Ian Schweiger, and Jared Edler.
Fontbonne (7-9; 4-3 SLIAC), finished with 15 shots as Nick Wolf and Marc Roellig tied with four each. Edler, meanwhile, netted his second collegiate goal. In net, Drew Blair made five saves.
Iowa Wesleyan (6-10-1; 4-2 SLIAC), compiled 17 shots and were led by Mariano Mateo's eight. Mateo and Fabian Arvizu each netted the goals for the Tigers.
In the first, the Griffins had a great scoring chance at the 14:08 mark, though Wolf's bicycle-kick attempt was saved by Chris Rimmer.
It remained a scoreless game up until 40:07. Pahl crossed the ball into the box and Edler was there to head it in, his first of the season, giving them a 1-0 lead at the break.
In the second, the Tigers offensive pressure picked up and it paid off early. Hugo Bonilla had the ball near midfield and he pushed it ahead for Mateo. He got behind the Griffins defense and scored to tie the game up at 1-1 at 53:01.
Both teams had its fair amount as the clock continued to tick away, but the score remained the same. In the 81st minute, the Tigers were forced to play down a man after a red card.
However, at 88:45 a penalty-kick was awarded to IWU after a foul in the box by Fontbonne. Arvizu stepped in and scored to make it a 2-1 final.
Fontbonne looks to bounce back in its regular season finale at home against MacMurray in the Breast Cancer Awareness game on Tuesday night. Kick-off is set for 8 p.m.
