Six Griffins Earn SLIAC All-Conference Honors
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released the 2018 Men’s Soccer All-Conference Teams and the Griffins came away with six honorees.
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released the 2018 Men's Soccer All-Conference Teams and the Griffins came away with six honorees.
Nick Wolf, Blake Smugala, and Max Kirkpatrick were named to the Second Team. Andres Castro, Marc Roellig, and Brendan Kopff picked up Third Team honors, while Wolf was also named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Wolf, a St. Louis, Mo., native, is named to the Second Team for back-to-back seasons. He finished 2018 tying his career-high with seven goals for 14 points. The forward concludes his career with 19 goals and six assists for 44 points in 54 games.
Smugala, a St. Louis, Mo., native, also earns the Second Team award for the second straight season. The midfielder ended this year's campaign tying his career-highs in goals (six), assists (four), and points (16). In his two seasons with the Griffins, Smugala finishes his career with 12 goals and eight assists for 32 points.
For the first time in his career, Kirkpatrick is honored by the SLIAC. The senior defender led the Griffins back line that allowed just eight goals in conference play. In his four-year career, Kirkpatrick appeared in 54 games and made 44 starts.
Castro, meanwhile, is back on the All-Conference Team for the first time since 2016. The Farmington, Mo., native, stepped offensively for the Griffins this season, finishing with a career-high four goals and three assists for 11 points.
Roellig, an O'Fallon, Mo., native, makes an appearance on the All-Conference Team for the first time in his career.
The senior concluded the year with a new career-high three goals and three assists for nine points. In his three seasons with Fontbonne, Roellig ends with four goals and five assists for 13 points in 56 games.
Like Roellig, Kopff, a St. Louis, Mo., native, earns a spot on the All-Conference Team in his final year with Fontbonne. The defender set a career-high with two goals and one assist for five points. He appeared in 68 games over four years and tallied three goals.
