Game Breakdown
Prior to the game, the Griffins honored its seven seniors Jarid Morton, Brandon Baumgartner, Dyllan Haggard, Tanner Harris, Anthony LaRocca, Jared Lyeki, and Zack Lyeki.
The Griffins got on the board quickly just over a minute in when Jared Lyeki's corner found his brother Zack Lyeki and he headed it into the far corner of the net for the 1-0 lead.
Four minutes later, the Griffins made it a 2-0 game when Jarid Morton sent a cross into the box. Tanner Harris was there to flick it on for Zack Lyeki and he headed in another one for his first career multi-goal game.
The Beavers, though cut the deficit down to 2-1 in the 23rd minute when Yeudiel De Leon scored off a pass that was deflected from Zibo Siamsipa.
It looked as if the Griffins would head into the break on top by one, however, the Beavers got a goal from Jamie Pineda tying the game with just under 40.0 seconds left.
In the second half, the Griffins got another quick goal, this time around from Jared Lyeki scoring off a corner kick that went off Blackburn goalie Hunter Vetter's hands and into the back of the net.
The Griffins gained some breathing room in the 69th minute when Joseph Huster got the ball off a throw, got to the top of the 18-yard box and scored past new Blackburn goalie Dawson Klunk for his first collegiate goal.
That proved to be an important one for Fontbonne as Blackburn tacked on an own goal in the 85th minute, but the Griffins were able to hang on for the one goal victory.
