Men's volleyball opens practice
Jan. 18, 2012 - The Fontbonne University men's volleyball team opened practice last week as they begin preparations for their fifth season as an NCAA sanctioned sport and ambitions of competing in the 1st NCAA National Championship in April.
New this season, the Griffins will be one of 10 teams this season competing in the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC). This newly established conference consists of schools from across the country. The Griffins will compete in the West Division of the CVC with fellow members University of California-Santa Cruz, Carthage College, MSOE, and Mount St Joseph.
The Griffins will open their CVC schedule on March 1 by hosting one of the CVC Tournaments. The first CVC Tournament will be held at the Dunham Student Activities Center on Fontbonne's campus, while the second will be held at Milwaukee School of Engineering.
In addition to their CVC schedule, Fontbonne will also play NCAA Division II powers such as Quincy University and Lindenwood University. The Griffins will also play in the Thiel Tournament against other NCAA Division III opponents.
Fontbonne head coach Matt Bright opens the season with 12 players on the roster, including 3 time All-Conference returners Libero Scott Ginger and Opposite Michael Visintine. Senior Robbie Monroe returns for his 4th season as a starter for the Griffins as well. The Griffins return 9 lettermen along with three freshmen to round out the 2012 roster.
The Griffins open their 2012 season on January 28th hosting Quincy University.
