Griffins fall to Spartans in season opener
St. Louis- Fontbonne men's volleyball took the court at Missouri Baptist University in their inaugural match of the season. The Spartans claimed victory, winning in three sets 25-15,25-19 and 25-13.
Aaron Graue recorded the highest number of kills on the evening, accumulating 8 decisive points for the Griffins.
Senior Braxton Payne and freshman Jimmy Stika each recorded team-high 6 digs for the Griffins.
Freshman Dominic Prospero recorded 15 assists in an effort to pull his team ahead.
Fontbonne totaled 22 kills on the night. Serve receive errors damaged Griffins' efforts of a rally. Fontbonne recorded 11 of those errors while Missouri Baptist accumulated none. Both teams had an equal number of digs with 22 each.
Overall, 26 assists were recorded for the Spartans along with 30 kills.
Fontbonne returns to action this weekend at Thiel College where they will play on Saturday against Eastern Mennonite and Cairn. On Sunday the Griffins will take on Juniata and Cazenovia.
