St. Louis- Fontbonne University men's volleyball hosted their Tri-Match tonight. Other teams included Lindenwood University and Belmont Abbey College or North Carolina. The Griffins fell to Lindenwood University in three straight sets 25-17, 25-21 and 25-19. The Griffins also fell to Belmont Abbey
Despite 13 serving errors, the Lions' 42 kills were no match for the Griffins' 21. Lindenwood's attacking percentage doubled Fontbonne's.
Fontbonne's Aaron Graue led the Griffins with 9 kills against the Lions and Cody Schmelzle stuffed 4 Lion attack attempts to lead the game in solo blocks.
Belmont Abbey took the Griffins in three sets as well (25-16, 25-21 and 25-20). The Crusaders recorded 37 kills to Fontbonne's 26. The Griffins had the upper hand serving with 3 service aces and 4 less service errors than Belmont Abbey.
Graue again led Fontbonne with 10 kills, however Marc Viglasky recorded the highest kill percentage. Justin Winkelmann recorded 3 solo blocks and helped a teammate out 3 other times defensively at the net.
Graue finished the evening with 19 kills, Braxton Payne totaled 11 kills, and Winkelmann accumulated 37 assists. Winkelmann recorded 6 total blocks on the night.
Fontbonne heads to Wisconsin this to play MSOE, Carthage and UC Santa Cruz in a CVC weekend in Milwaukee.
