Griffins Net Win Over Brooklyn
St. Louis- Last night, Fontbonne University men's volleyball dominated during their first set against Brooklyn College, en route to a four-set win. The Griffins are now 2-3 overall.
After cruising through the first set 25-13, and leading 18-15 in the second, Brooklyn College took over scoring six straight points. Brooklyn held onto the lead for a 25-22 win.
The third set was opposite of the second with Brooklyn taking an early 9-5 lead. The Griffins immediately posted a 9-3 run (14-12), later finishing on top 25-21.
Fontbonne jumped out early in the fourth set to an 11-4 advantage. Brooklyn pulled within two late in the match (20-18) but Fontbonne scored five straight points to secure the win. Aaron Graue put down three kills of those final five points.
Setter Justin Winkelmann's 32 assists were coupled with three kills on seven attempts, four digs, one solo block and five block assists. Graue finished with 19 kills and eight digs on the night. Winkelmann partnered with Peter Hibbeler at the net, as Hibbeler recorded six block assists and two solo blocks. Zack Pelker and Brendan Keller each recorded 10 digs during the match along with Marc Viglasky's eight kills at the net.
Fontbonne recorded almost double the attacking percentage of Brooklyn and recorded 20 team blocks compared to Brooklyn's nine.
