Griffins Undefeated in New York (6-0)
St. Louis- After winning their first four games in New York, the Griffins made sure they went home undefeated.
On Sunday, Fontbonne men's volleyball took on the Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons in grand fashion. After trailing 0-1, the Griffins closed out the set with 25 straight points. Freshman Brendan Keller was able to muscle out 24 consecutive serves.
During the second set, Keller continued his serving streak adding 13 serves on 13 attempts, before Sarah Lawrence called a timeout. Coach Mike Haston subbed out Keller, keeping his perfect 37 for 37 service attempts intact.The Griffins went on to win 25-3.
Fontbonne finished the game winning the third set 25-8. Junior Aaron Graue posted 20 kills on 23 attempts. Fontbonne posted a .705 attacking percentage against the Gryphons.
vs. Pratt Institute
With Sarah Lawrence hosting immediately following, Fontbonne's 25-12, 25-11 and 25-10 win over Pratt sealed their New York win streak.
The Griffins' .435 hitting percentage out-shined the Cannoneers' -.094. Fontbonne accumulated 40 kills compared to Pratt's ten.
Fontbonne now has several statistics among the national NCAA Division III rankings. Peter Hibbeler is second in blocks per set (1.41). The leader has 1.45 blocks per set. Aaron Graue is ranked fourth nationally with 4.62 kills per set and fifth in points per set (3.44). Hibbeler is also ranked ninth in hitting percentage (.402).
As a team the Griffins are ranked 10th in digs per set, averaging 10.42 digs.
Fontbonne has over a week off before they host a doubleheader against Mt. St. Joseph's on Friday February 28th and Saturday March 1st.
