Griffins snap losing streak; defeat Cincinnati Christian
St. Louis, Mo. - After winning the first two sets against Cincinnati Christian University, the Griffins trailed 20-11, but put forth a 11-5 run, trying to avenge the Eagles in three sets. Fontbonne took set four for the win, breaking their 14-game losing streak.
In the third set down by nine points, the Griffins posted a 5-2 run before CCU called a timeout. Trailing 17-24, Fontbonne scored five unanswered points trying to rally for the win, ultimately falling 22-25. The Griffins ended the set strong, with three blocks in their final four points. Fontbonne totaled four blocks in the third set, with Peter Hibbeler contributing on each one.
Fontbonne trailed 15-17 in the final set before scoring four consecutive points. After a CCU timeout, the Griffins ended the set on a 6-4 run.
Hibbeler tallied nine block assists, one solo block and three kills. Senior Aaron Graue led with the most kills (15) while freshman Stephen Lendy had the highest kill percentage (.304). The Griffins tallied seven service aces.
Fontbonne is on the road this weekend, back to MCVL action at Loras on Friday at 7pm and Carthage Saturday at 2pm. Fontbonne returns home the following weekend for two home conference matchups.
