Men's Volleyball rolls to third consecutive win
Cambridge, Mass. - Fontbonne men's volleyball won their third straight game on the Easterrn seaboard this week, taking down Lesley University 25-16, 25-14 and 25-18. Fontbonne is now 14-9 and concludes spring break play with a doubleheader starting at noon central against Newbury and Mount Ida on Saturday.
First-set action was close with teh Griffins leading 18-16 until Fontbonne closed out the win with seven straight points on five kills, an ace and two Lesley attack errors. In the second set, the Griffins led 9-6 and opened a gap with four straight points to lead 13-6. After leading 16-8, Lesley scored five in a row to pull within three before Fontbonne closed out the win on a 10-1 run.
The Griffins secured the sweep after trailing 7-8 but went on a 7-1 run to gain a sizable 14-9 advantage before going on to win 25-18.
The Griffins rolled to the win, led by freshman Aaron Kowalewski. The Fenton, Mo. native tallied six kills on 10 attempts while also recording four block assists. Brendon Schwartze totaled seven kills and three aces while Stephen Lendy recorded six while Jacob Lendy assisted 26 times. Tony Pitaro finished with five kills as Gabe Grote served up a team-high five aces.
