Men's Volleyball sweeps spring break play 5-0
Newton, Mass. - With two wins on Friday, the Griffins went 5-0 over spring break, increasing their season record to 16-9. Fontbonne's 16 wins is double the previous school record for wins in a season.
Newbury
The Griffins first took on Newbury College in three sets with Brendon Schwartze tallying a Griffin-high kills. Schwartze hit .444 while the Fontbonne middle's produced the highest effective hitting rates. Emir Hadzisalihovic's six kills on nine attempts was a Griffin-tying high .667 hitting percentage. James Saurmann went two-of-three while Tony Pitaro confirmed three kills on four attempts. Jacob Lendy assisted in 31 of the Griffins 41 kills. Senior libero Jimmy Stika led the defense for Fontbonne with nine digs and recorded his 100th career assist in the sweep.
Mount Ida
Fontbonne swept Mount Ida decisively, allowing the host school to score 51 points, with only 10 in the first set. Stephen Lendy's eight kills, eight digs and three service aces were team-highs while Stika also produced eight digs. Gabe Grote recorded 7 digs in the win while Jacob Lendy assisted 26 times and totled six digs.
The Griffins will conclude their season this weekend with Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League contests at Loras College Friday night and at North Central College on Saturday.
