ST. LOUIS, Mo.—We take a look back at the Fontbonne University men's volleyball season before it was cut short due to COVID-19.
Highlights
- The Griffins finished the season 5-11 overall and 3-1 in MCVL play.
- The team was rolling winning four out of its last five before the season came to an end.
- Its lone blemish came in a five-set defeat against Adrian on Feb. 22nd.
Stats
- The Griffins averaged 10.61 kills per set and a .167 hitting percentage.
- Defensively, they came away with 11.04 digs per set and 1.86 blocks per set.
- Cameron Graves, who was named to the MCVL All-Conference First Team, led with 184 kills.
- Braden Woolsey, who earned Second Team honors, finished with 116 kills and a team-high .311 hitting percentage. He also led at the net with 39 blocks.
- Setter Kyler van Rossum-O'Connell was named to the All-Conference First Team for the second straight season after averaging 9.30 assists per set, while ranking second on the team in digs (115) and blocks (27).
- Libero Zach Rothstein, meanwhile, earned MCVL Defensive Player of the Year honors for the second time in his career and earned First Team honors.
- He led the Griffins with 156 digs and ranked third in the MCVL with 2.79 digs per set.
Senior Class Career Stats
- The Griffins had four seniors this season that included Kyler van Rossum-O'Connell, Sebastian Roca, Ivan Rendon, and Zach Rothstein.
- Kyler van Rossum-O'Connell, a Joliet, Ill., native, four-year career ends as the all-time leader at Fontbonne in assists (2,824), fourth in digs (763), and seventh in blocks (120). He's the lone player in program history with 2,000 career assists.
- Roca, a Tierra Verde, Fla., native, appeared in 60 matches, totaling 58 service aces, and 173 digs. He ranks third all-time in career aces.
- Rendon, a Torrance, Calif., native, appeared in 16 matches and set a career-high this season with eight digs.
- Rothstein, an Evergreen Park, Ill., native, ends his career as the all-time leader defensively and the lone player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career digs (1,084). Nationally, he finishes ninth all-time in the record books in total digs and fourth in digs per set (3.25). He's a three-time All-MCVL selection, twice on the First Team and earned MCVL Defensive Player of the Week honor a record eight times.
