Men's Volleyball Sweeps Baldwin Wallace, Kyler van Rossum-O'Connell and Rothstein Move Up In Record Books
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The (RV) Fontbonne University men’s volleyball team extended its winning streak out to nine after earning a doubleheader sweep over Baldwin Wallace.
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The (RV) Fontbonne University men's volleyball team extended its winning streak out to nine after earning a doubleheader sweep over Baldwin Wallace.
Prior to the contests, the Griffins honored its six seniors in Kyler van Rossum-O'Connell, Jacob Hartmann, Nate Paasch, Grant Garza, Zach Rothstein, and Braden Woolsey.
The Griffins were able to earn the sweep in game one totaling 39 kills and an astounding .408 hitting percentage. Defensively, the team came away with 28 digs and 10 block assists.
Ryan Lively led the Griffins in game one with his first double-double with 13 kills, a .391 hitting percentage, and 11 digs.
Kyler van Rossum-O'Connell added 34 assists and Zach Rothstein added seven digs.
It was more of the same story in game two with the Griffins totaling 38 kills and a .317 hitting percentage in the victory. Defensively, the team added 36 digs and six block assists.
Lively led once more with 13 kills and a .360 hitting percentage. Braden Woolsey finished with eight kills and a .357 hitting percentage, while Cameron Graves finished with seven kills.
Kyler van Rossum-O'Connell handed out 33 assists and Rothstein added 13 digs.
Fontbonne Leaders
- On the day, the Griffins finished with 77 kills and a .358 hitting percentage.
- Lively led with 26 kills, 4.33 kills per set, a .375 hitting percentage, and 18 digs.
- Graves was second on the team with 16 kills, while Woolsey added 15, a team-high .423 hitting percentage, and four blocks.
- Kyler van Rossum-O'Connell added 67 assists (11.17 assists per set).
- Defensively, the team got it done at the net with 11 blocks.
- Jacob Hartmann led with six digs in the two wins, while Grant Garza added five.
- Rothstein posted a team-high 20 digs.
- Overall, the Griffins averaged 10.67 digs per set.
Fontbonne Notes
- Kyler van Rossum-O'Connell moved into 22nd all-time in NCAA Division III career assists with 3,316.
- Zach Rothstein needed just one dig to move into second all-time in NCAA division III in career digs. He needs just 77 more to become the all-time leader.
- Grant Garza's four block performance in game one was a new career-high mark.
- Jacob Hartmann's combined six blocks gives him a career-high 22 on the year.
- Braden Woolsey's three service aces give him a career-high 14 on the year. He owns a career-best .523 hitting percentage on the season.
- This was the first meeting between the two teams with Baldwin Wallace being a first-year program.
- This marked the 12th time and seventh straight contest where the Griffins finished with a hitting percentage above .300.
- The 10 block assists tie its season-high in a three-set match.
