Bio

Sauermann enters his fifth season as an assistant coach for the Griffins in 2022.

During his tenure as a coach for the Griffins, Sauermann has contributed to multiple achievements for the program including two MCVL Tournament Championships, two NCAA Tournament appearances, and two finishes in the AVCA National Rankings. 

Specializing in coaching middle hitters, Sauermann led the development of all-MCVL performers Emir Hadzisalihovic and Braden Woolsey, with Hadzisalihovic finishing as the program's all-time leader in blocks, and Woolsey finishing first in the country in hitting percentage in 2021.

A 2018 graduate of Fontbonne, Sauermann played four years as a middle hitter for the Griffins. He ranks highly in program history in a number of categories including total blocks (10th) and hitting percentage (7th).

An Edwardsville, Illinois native, Sauermann played four years of volleyball for Edwardsville High School, where he helped lead the team to a regional championship and Illinois State Tournament appearance during his senior season. He currently resides in St. Louis City.
