The Fontbonne University women's softball team returns to St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) play this week after splitting a pair of non-conference games in Memphis, Tennessee this past weekend.
The Griffins lost to Emory University 11-2 but rebounded to beat Rhodes College 3-2. Fontbonne is now 11-9 overall and 2-0 in the SLIAC.
After their first two games on Saturday were rained out, Fontbonne fell behind Emory early on Sunday and could never recover. The Griffins gave up five runs in the top of the 1st inning to Emory en route to a 11-2 loss.
In their second game on Sunday, junior pitcher Rachel McCarthy gave up two runs on two hits as the Griffins defeated Rhodes 3-2. McCarthy improved to 5-3 on the season while sophomore Cassie Glixman delivered a big two-run double to lead the Griffins to victory.
The Griffins return to the diamond on April 4th playing at Blackburn College (11-2, 2-0 SLIAC) at 5 and 7 pm.
