Pitching extends Griffins' win streak to 11
The Fontbonne University women's softball team extended their season-high winning streak to 11 games as they swept a doubleheader from MacMurray College yesterday. The Griffins improved to 21-9 overall and 10-0 in the St. Louis Intercollege Athletic Conference (SLIAC).
Fontbonne used a couple great pitching performance yesterday to cruise past MacMurray 9-0 and 8-0.
In the first game, junior Rachel McCarthy and freshman Madison Leonard combined to no-hit MacMurray over five innings. McCarthy went four innings striking out five while Leonard went one inning striking out the side. Freshman Emily Smith went 2-2 from the plate with a run scored and a season-high three RBI's. In all, seven different Griffins tallied a RBI.
In the second game, freshman Lindsay Schaefer threw a complete game shutout. Schaefer earned her fourth win of the season.
Fontbonne now has outscored their SLIAC opponents 98-14 over 10 games. The Griffins will attempt to continue that dominance as they host Westminster College on Thursday for a doublheader beginning at 5 pm.
