Softball extends SLIAC winning streak to 32 games

The Fontbonne University women's softball team extended their winning streak to 13 games and remained undefeated in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) by winning four games over the weekend. The Griffins have now won 32 straight games against SLIAC opponents dating back to the 2012 season.
The Griffins swept a doubleheader from Iowa Weslyan University winning 8-2 and 10-2 on Saturday. Then on Sunday, swept a doubleheader from Webster University 8-0 and 8-0. Fontbonne is now 18-4 overall and 6-0 in the SLIAC.
In the doubleheader against Iowa Wesleyan, senior Marissa Simon drove in five runs while going 5-8 from the plate. Simon had two doubles during the doubleheader as did junior Danielle Glixman. On the bump, Lindsay Schaefer and Madison Leonard picked up the victories for the Griffins.
In the first game versus Webster, senior Sarah Cerutti was the offensive leader blasting a three-run home run and scoring another run. Simon picked up two more RBI's going 2-2 from the dish. Sophomore Madison Leonard picked up the victory on the mound throwing a complete-game two-hit shuout.
In the nightcap, junoir Cassandra Glixman provided the big-hit, a two-run double, and that's all the run support sophomore Linsday Schaefer would need. Schaefer improved to 9-0 this season by throwing a complete-game four-hit shutout.
Fontbonne will attempt to continue its SLIAC dominance on Thursday when they head to Jacksonville, IL for a doubleheader against MacMurray College.
