Griffins pounce on Panthers to stay unbeaten in SLIAC
The Fontbonne University women's softball team continues to excel in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play as they swept a doubleheader from Greenville College this weekend to improve to 20-4 overall and 8-0 in the SLIAC.
The Griffins are currently riding a 15-game winning streak and have won 34 straight games against SLIAC opponents dating back to 2012. On Saturday, Fontbonne defeated Greenville 9-1 and 7-2. The Griffins have outscored SLIAC opponents 90-7.
In the first game Saturday, Fontbonne used a balanced offensive attack to take down the Panthers. Seven Griffins recorded at least one hit while six Griffins scored at least one run. The Glixman sisters combined to go 2-5 from the plate with four runs scored and two RBI's. Sophomore Madison Leonard threw a complete game allowing just one run on five hits.
In the nightcap, Fontbonne scored seven unanswered runs to defeat Greenville. Shannon Fitzpatrick led the way for the Griffins at the plate going 2-4 with a double, triple, three RBI's and a run scored. On the mound, sophomore Lindsay Schaefer improved to 10-0 by going five innings and allowing just two runs. Leonard pitched in relief striking out five in two innings.
The Griffins return to the diamond on Wednesday when they play Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri.
