Griffins sweep Webster
St. Louis- Fontbonne University softball extends its win streak with two dominating shut-out wins over the Webster University Gorlocks on Sunday, March 30th. Seniors Marissa Simon and Jessie Pratt led the Griffins, combining for 6 hits and 4 runs batted in. Sarah Cerutti also belted a 3 run home-run in Game 1.
In Game 1, the Griffins tallied their first run in the second inning, capitalizing on a Gorlock error that allowed Danni Glixman to reach base. She scored on a double by Jessie Pratt. In the fourth, with two runners on, Cara Hargate roped a single that scored Cerutti and Emily Smith. Hargate took advantage of an error to advance to third base. Shannon Fitzpatrick drew a walk. Hargate and Fitzpatrick scored on a single by Marissa Simon. In the fifth, Danni Glixman doubled and Emily Smith walked before Sarah Cerutti blasted a 3 run walk off home run.
Sophmore pitcher Madi Leonard dominated from the rubber striking out a season-high 12 batters. In 5 innings of work, Leonard allowed only 2 hits and 1 walk en route to her 7th win of the season. Powers (3-3) was the losing pitcher for Webster.
In Game 2, Griffin bats stayed hot as they began with 3 runs in the first. Fitzpatrick led off with a walk. She advanced on a single by Simon. Cassi Glixman reached on a fielder's choice that advanced Fiztpatrick to 3rd. D. Glixman then roped a double that scored Fitzpatrick and moved C. Glixman to 3rd. Jessie Pratt walked to load the bases and Emily Smith singled, scoring both Glixman sisters. The Griffins would be held scoreless until the 4th inning where they threw up another crooked number. Hargate singled then stole second. Courtney Kruas drew a walk. Hargate made the most of a passed ball and a wild pitch, advancing to third and scoring. Marissa Simon then singled and advanced on the throw to second, moving Kraus to 3rd. Cassi Glixman singled, scoring both Simon and Kraus. Danni Glixman reached first on an error by the center fielder and moved to second on the throw. Jessie Pratt singled, scoring Cassi Glixman and advancing Danni Glixman to 3rd. Danni Glixman was called out at home, but Emily Smith added her second hit and third RBI of the day with a single that scored Pratt. The Griffins shut the Gorlocks down in the top of the fifth to seal the win.
Lindsay Schaefer tossed 5 shutout innings in her 9th win of the season. She allowed just 4 hits and 1 walk. Schaefer tied her season high of 4 strike outs. Framck (3-3) was the losing pitcher for the Gorlocks.
Fontbonne improves to 18-4 on the season and 6-0 in conference action. The Griffins are currently enjoying a 13 game win streak. The Webster Gorlocks are 6-8 on the season and 2-2 in the SLIAC. Fontbonne takes on Greenville College on Saturday, April 5 at ABC Ballpark in St. Ann, MO at 1 pm and 3 pm.
