St. Louis- Softball extends win streak to 17 games with 12-0 and 11-2 wins over Westminster tonight. The Griffins stand undefeated in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 10-0 record so far.
Game 1 scoring at Westminster began immediately in the first inning. The Blue Jays struggled, allowing leadoff hitter Shannon Fitzpatrick to walk, then steal second. Marissa Simon reached on an error, scoring Fitzpatrick, and would steal second and advance to third on a wild pitch. Cassi Glixman reached on a second Blue Jay error, scoring Simon. Twin sister Danni Glixman doubled, bringing in Cassi for the third and final run of the first inning. Westminster would allow two more walks and a stolen base before the inning was complete.
Three more Griffins walked in the second, with C. Glixman scoring Fitzpatrick and Sarah Cerutti hitting her first grand slam (sixth of the year). Scoring concluded in the third inning for Fontbonne as C. Glixman singled to bring in Fitzpatrick once again. D. Glixman hit her second bomb of the year, bringing in Cassi and Simon.
Madi Leonard picked up her ninth win of the season, striking out seven in her four innings of work with one walk and four hits.
During Game 2, both teams scored a run in the first, with Fontbonne adding three more in the third, one in the fourth and one in the fifth to lead 6-1. The Griffins scored five in the sixth inning to end the game early. The Glixman sisters each doubled with Danni accumulating three RBIs, Danni two, Fitzpatrick two, and Simon one RBI. The Griffins totaled five stolen bases.
Allison Biggs hit a home run off Griffin pitcher Lindsay Schaefer . Biggs also doubled during the game.
Schaefer's defense helped gain her 11th win of the season (11-0).
Fontbonne, most recently ranked #22 in the NFCA poll, hosts Eureka College this Saturday for a doubleheader scheduled to begin at noon.
