Softball Awarded for Excellence in the Classroom
St. Louis- Fontbonne University's 2014 Softball team had a team Grade Point Average of 3.52, ranking them seventh in GPA among 90 other NCAA Division III softball teams. The Griffins finished the 2012-2013 academic year ranked fifth and 2011-2012 academic year ranked #1 in the nation for NCAA Division III schools, according to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
Student-athletes who achieve a 3.5 or better GPA on a 4.0 scale for the 2013-14 academic year are recognized as NFCA Scholar-Athletes. Eight Griffins were named to the NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete Team including Morgan Baer (Biology-4.0), Shannon Fitzpatrick (English-3.972), Cassi Glixman (Dietetics-3.944), Danni Glixman (Business Administration-3.719), Cara Hargate (Speech-Language Pathology-3.689), Jessie Pratt (Psychology-3.597), Emily Smith (Social Work-3.945) and Alexis Stankovich (Social Work-3.719).
Fontbonne University softball has advanced to the national tournament each of the last five years under head coach Bill Rosner and associate head coach Mike Akers. It is the mission of Fontbonne Athletics to excel off the field as well as on the field.
