St. Charles, Mo. - Fontbonne softball was supposed to host Division II Lindenwood University Wednesday, but due to poor field conditions the game was moved to St. Charles.
Fontbonne opened up the annual doubleheader with a triple by Shannon Fitzpatrick who then scored on a throwing error. Fontbonne scored four more runs in the third, shutting out the lions 5-0 in game one. Madi Leonard struck out eight batters in six innings, allowing just one hit.
Game two was a back and forth battle of the bats. Lindenwood scored in the first with Fontbonne answering in the second. The Griffins then posted three runs in the third while Lindenwood tied the game with three more runs in the fourth inning. Lindenwood took a 6-5 lead in the fifth and was able to secure three more runs in the seventh, winning their first game against the Griffins in the teams' last six meetings.
The Griffins swept Lindenwood during their 2013 and 2014 doubleheader adventures.
Fontbonne is on the road this weekend taking on No. 10-ranked Emory College in Georgia.
