St. Louis, Mo. - The Griffins took down Westminster in both games tonight and are 23-9 overall.
Game one: Madi Leonard struck out the first three Blue Jays sending Shannon Fitzpatrick to the plate. Fitzpatrick led Fontbonne with a triple in the Griffins' first at-bat of the game After walking two Blue Jays to load the bases in the sixth, Leonard got out of the jam on her 13th strikeout of the evening. Fontbonne got the 4-0 win on two triples and a sac fly.
Game two: Fontbonne loaded the bases in the bottom of the first with two outs as well. Fitzpatrick hit a hard grounder as Westminster's second baseman lunged to her left, making the stop. Wheels up, Fitzpatrick beat out the soft toss, scoring two runs. The Griffins got out to a solid 6-0 start after their first offensive outing of game two, scoring nine more runs in the second inning. Cassi Glixman hit her seventh long-ball to left center. Michelle Boyer earned her first collegiate hit, also recording a RBI. Fontbonne scored 23 runs on five doubles, two triples, a sacrifice fly and the lone homer.
Fontbonne has just over a week off when they host neighbor Washington University on April 24th at 5 and 7 p.m. The team will be taking part of NFCA's Strikeout Cancer, accepting donations for the Susan G. Komen fundation. After the games, the Griffins will honor four outgoing players: seniors Cassi and Danni Glixman, Shannon Fitzpatrick and juniors Morgan Baer and Caitlin Nappier.
