Cassi Glixman and Shannon Fitzpatrick earn Capital One Academic All-America honors

St. Louis, Mo. - Two Fontbonne University seniors were named to the 2015 Capital One Academic All-America Division III Softball teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). In order to be selected to an Academic All-America team, a student-athlete must demonstrate success on the playing field and in the classroom, with academic and athletic achievements taken into consideration. The student-athlete must possess a minimum 3.30 GPA and be at least a sophomore in academic standing. First and second teams have 11 student-athletes while the third team is made up of 12 players.
Cassi Glixman, Fontbonne's first baseman, was selected as a First-Team Academic All-American, the first in Fontbonne's history. Glixman finished her four-year career with a 3.92 cumulative GPA in Dietetics while earning magna cum laude honors. She achieved third team- NFCA All-American honors this year, first-team NFCA All-Midwest Region honors for the second time in her career and was selected as the SLIAC Player of the Year for the second year in a row. Glixman is continuing her education at Saint Louis University in Dietetics as well.
Glixman (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway North) led the Griffins this season with 54 RBI's and a .785 slugging percentage. She recorded 59 hits, one short of her 2014 school-record 60 hits, 42 runs, 18 doubles, one triple, and nine home runs. Glixman stole seven bases on nine attempts, had a .985 fielding percentage, .477 on-base percentage and .437 batting average. The four-year all-region corner totaled a .421 batting average (second all-time), .647 slugging percentage (third all-time), 199 hits (second all-time by one hit), 146 runs (record), 155 RBI's (record), 51 doubles (second all-time), 16 home runs (third all-time) and 36 walks in her career, leaving many records for future Griffins to chase.
Shannon Fitzpatrick, Fontbonne's centerfielder, was selected as a Second-Team Academic All-American. Fitzpatrick graduated with a 3.97 cumulative GPA in English. The Griffins' leadoff hitter is a four-time all-SLIAC player who earned first-team all-SLIAC honors this year, her third of her career.
Fitzpatrick (Hazelwood, Mo./Incarnate Word) drew 23 walks with a .376 batting average and .494 on-base percentage. The senior lefty tallied 48 runs on 47 hits this year with 14 doubles. Her 48 runs is second all-time for a Griffin and she owns the top two most triples in a season with seven this season and six last year. Fitzpatrick is third all-time in runs (135) and owns multiple Fontbonne records including most walks in a season (31 in 2014), most walks in a career (83), most triples in a career (15)
Fontbonne finished the 2015 season with a 30-11 overall record, and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the sixth consecutive year and ninth in program history. The Griffins went 18-0 in the SLIAC this year, winning their 10th overall conference regular-season championship and fifth consecutive.
