Griffins stun Calvin and Tufts on day two of Spring Break action

St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne University softball achieved their first win of the season in grand fashion Monday morning in Florida. Fontbonne registered 11 hits as the Griffins downed Calvin College in five innings 10-2. The first win of the season was also the first win of head coach Danni Glixman's career. Fontbonne is now 2-4 on the year.
CALVIN
The Griffins scored twice in the first inning before Calvin tied the game in the ensuing half inning. But Fontbonne held the knights scoreless and would score eight more runs to secure their first win of the season.
Emelia Modglin recorded three hits on three at-bats with one run scored and one RBI.
Freshman Brianna Durant go the start in the circle where she struck out two batters over four innings.
Sophomore Emily McNiff ended the game early with a two-run shot, her first collegiate home run. The hit gave the Griffins the seven-point spread.
TUFTS
Fontbonne scored first in the second inning and after the third led Tufts 6-1. Both teams remained scoreless until Tufts crossed two more runs in their final at-bats with Diamond Thomas pitching.
Maddie Cooksey and Alleigh Kruse had spectacular catches at center field and second base to keep the Jumbos scoreless in the sixth inning.
Cooksey went 3-4 with three RBI's and a double while Courtney Kedroski went 3-5 with two doubles.
ON THE DAY
Brianna Durant earned her first collegiate win in the Griffins' win against Calvin. Maddy Strickland picked up her first win of the season in the 6-3 victory over Tufts.
Kedroski went 4-8 across the two games with three doubles and a .875 slugging percentage.
Cooksey finished the day 3-5 with three RBI's, two walks and two runs scored.
McNiff tallied three runs scored as did Kayla Winkler.
Fontbonne will play games five and six Tuesday morning as they take on Wisconsin Oshkosh at 9am Eastern followed by the University of Chicago at 11:30am Eastern.
