SLIAC announces Game of the Week as Griffins host Westminster in Softball
St. Louis, Mo. - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced that for the week of April 10th, the softball doubleheader between Fontbonne and Westminster is the Game of the Week. Both teams are undefeated in conference play.
The game, hosted by Fontbonne, will be held at ABC Ball Park in St. Ann, Mo. Live audio and live statistics will be available for those unable to make the drive. The first game begins at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12th. It's also the first doubleheader of a six-game home stand, including the Griffins final home game of the season this Saturday.

Fontbonne University 'GRIFFINS' Fontbonne is currently 6-10 overall and 4-0 in the SLIAC. The Griffins are coming off a doubleheader sweep of Blackburn last weekend. The Griffins offense has come around as of late, reaching double-digit runs in three of their last four games. Fontbonne is hitting .309 as a team, 4th in the SLIAC, and have scored 90 runs this season. Their offensive attack has moved away from the power numbers of the past, with just four home runs, and more towards gap power with 30 extra base hits this season including a conference-best seven triples. Junior Courtney Kedroski leads the team with a .426 average while stealing four bases. Sophomore Emelia Modglin is hitting .420 with a team-high 13 runs batted in and a .640 slugging percentage. In the circle, the Griffins rely on a young staff with two sophomores (Diamond Thomas and Maddy Strickland) and a freshman (Brianna Durant). Durant has a 2.77 earned-run average in seven appearances while Thomas holds a 3.46 earned-run average.

Westminster College 'BLUE JAYS' Westminster brings a 13-9 overall record into the week and a perfect 6-0 record in conference play. The Blue Jays are coming off a sweep of Eureka on Sunday and tomorrow's games will start a four-game road trip. The Blue Jays have scored 143 runs this season, highlighted by 11 home runs. They are hitting .311 as a team and have struck out just 47 times this season. The Blue Jays offense is led by senior infielder Erica Burney, the defending SLIAC Player of the Year. Burney is hitting .410 this season with one home run and 17 runs batted in while drawing 12 walks. Freshman Josie Cotter has provided protection for Burney, hitting .371 with four home runs and 30 runs batted in. A total of six players are hitting above .300 this season. Senior Alyson Hahn and freshman Katie Price team up to lead the Blue Jays pitching staff. Hahn holds a 3.36 earned-run average and has recorded 45 strikeouts in 50 innings. Price has a 3.71 earned-run average in a team-high 54.2 innings pitched this year.
