Webster softball defeats Griffins in Big Bend rivalry
Courtney Kedroski and Maddie Cooksey earned the only Griffin runs on two solo homers as Webster swept Fontbonne in their Big Bend rivalry matchup.

Webster Groves, Mo. - Fontbonne University softball dropped two games to Big Bend rival Webster University at Blackburn Park tonight. The Griffins, who switched up their lineup, secured just two runs on solo homers to left field. The Gorloks defeated Fontbonne 2-1 in game one and 9-1 in game two. Fontbonne falls to 9-3 in conference while the Gorloks lift to 11-5.
The Griffins have now lost four straight games in the last two days, all on the road.
Webster plated two runs in the bottom of the first inning on four hits. Kedroski lifted her third home run of the year in the third inning with two outs to cut Webster's lead to one. Both teams remained scoreless the remainder of the game, tallying six hits each.
Maddy Strickland took the loss for Fontbonne in the circle.
Game Two
Webster scored their first four runs in the bottom of the first inning off four hits and an error. The Gorloks added another run in the following inning. Center fielder Maddie Cooksey got Fontbonne on the scoreboard with a solo shot to left to lead off the third inning.
Webster took a 6-1 lead before scoring three runs on a walk-off single up the middle in the sixth inning to end the game early.
Cooksey went two-for-three in the game while Kedroski earned the only other hit in the latter game.
Diamond Thomas suffered the loss for Fontbonne as the Griffins move to 11-15 on the season.
Fontbonne is supposed to travel to Greenville Friday and Eureka Saturday for doubleheaders, pending the weather.
