Lady Blues Five-Run Fifth Spoils Griffins Attempt At DH Split In Game Two

In game one, the Griffins (2-16) totaled seven hits as Courtney Kedroski and Emily Cardwell added two each. Maddy Strickland, meanwhile, extended her hitting streak out to eight games and tallied the lone RBI.
Inside the circle, Brianna Durant took the loss as she went 2.0 innings, allowing one run and striking out two.
Illinois College (8-6), meanwhile, got a solid pitching performance out of Mariah Hedges. She tossed a complete game seven-hitter and struck out two. Offensively, Lea Hall and Savanna Brady both hit homers, and finished a combined 4-for-6 with three runs scored and six RBI.
In the bottom of the second, Hall got the Lady Blues on the board with a leadoff solo homer. In the home half of the third, the Lady Blues tallied four more runs, capped off by Brady's 2-run shot giving them a 5-0 lead.
Fontbonne got one of those runs back in the fourth. Emelia Modglin was hit-by-pitch and she raced home on Strickland''s triple to right. However, IC scored two more runs in the next half inning and another in the fifth, securing the seven-run victory.

In game two, the Griffins had a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the fifth, though IC plated five runs in the inning to go on for the win.
Offensively, Diamond Thomas went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Strickland and Cardwell each added an RBI, while Strickland's hitting streak has reached nine games. On the rubber, Thomas pitched well, including holding IC hitless until the fourth as she allowed five runs on eight hits and struck out a season-high six.
Jess Feig led IC with a complete game seven-hitter and striking out three. At the dish, Brady finished 1-for-3 with two RBI.
It was a scoreless game up until the fourth. Courtney Kedroski and Alleigh Kruse led off with consecutive singles. After a strikeout, Strickland hit an RBI single that scored Kedroski.
In the fifth, Thomas helped herself with a leadoff single. Three batters later, Cardwell ripped a single to right allowing Thomas to come around and score.
However, in the fifth, the Lady Blues offense got to Thomas. Sam Seggerman and Jackie Reilly each hit one-out RBI singles. After a strikeout, Brady plated the duo with a single up the middle to tie the game.
Then, Frankie Sikora brought Brady home with an RBI triple and now the Lady Blues led, 3-2. An RBI double from Christin Mathias and a single from Ryleigh Keith gave IC some breathing room at 5-2.
In the seventh, the Griffins had the tying run at the plate as Thomas and Melanie Russo each got on base with a single. However, Feig retired the final two Griffin hitters to give them the three-run win.
Fontbonne looks to bounce back next Tuesday as they'll pay a visit to rival WashU. First-pitch will be thrown at 3 p.m.
