Strickland, Cooksey And Kedroski Named To First Team; SLIAC Honors Five More Griffins With Awards
ST. LOUIS, Mo.— The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released the 2018 All-Conference Teams and the Griffins came away with eight honorees.
ST. LOUIS, Mo.— The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) released the 2018 All-Conference Teams and the Griffins came away with eight honorees.
Fontbonne saw the likes of Maddy Strickland, Maddie Cooksey and Courtney Kedroski earn First Team honors. Emelia Modglin and Alleigh Kruse were named to the Second Team, while Emily Cardwell and Kayla Winkler earned Third Team. Isabel Hotop, meanwhile, was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
Strickland, a High Ridge, Missouri, native, earned the First Team award as a pitcher after dominating opposing hitters in conference play.
The hurler went 7-1 in 54.0 innings of work and struck out 36 for a mere 1.56 ERA. Overall, she's 7-9 with a 4.11 ERA in 98.2 innings and has struck out a career-high 59 hitters.
Kedroski earns First Team honors for the second straight season. In 18 conference games, the senior batted a team-high .481, to go along with her 26 hits, 21 runs scored, 10 doubles and 14 RBI. Currently, she's set new career-highs in average (.396), runs scored (31) and doubles (14).
After being on the Second Team last year, Cooksey moves up to First Team as she batted an impressive .412 in 16 games. She scattered 21 hits, 14 runs scored, one homer and nine RBI. On the season, Cooksey's up to a .380 clip, 35 hits, 25 runs scored, 11 doubles and 19 RBI.
Modglin, meanwhile, is named to the All-Conference squad for the second straight season. The catcher hit .404 in 18 conference games, totaling 21 hits, nine runs scored, six doubles and 11 RBI. Through 34 games thus far, Modglin owns a .333 average, nine doubles and 22 RBI.
Kruse joins Modglin on the Second Team as an infielder after hitting .377 and totaling 18 RBI, which is second-highest on the Griffins in conference action. At the dish, Kruse owns new career-high marks in average (.343), hits (34), runs scored (17), home runs (one) and RBI (23).
Cardwell, though is named to the All-Conference Team for the first time in her career. She's swung the bat well for the Griffins as she's hitting .417 in 16 games. She's also compiled 20 hits, six RBI and a team-high seven stolen bases.
Winkler also earns her first All-Conference award. The Perryville, Missouri, native, totaled 16 hits, four doubles and two triples, to go along with her .372 in 17 games. On the year, she's hitting .259 totaling 22 hits, 21 runs scored and 12 RBI.
Hotop was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team for the third time in her career. She's appeared in 12 games on the rubber for the Griffins and has struck out eight batters in 18.0 innings.
