Game One
Final: Maryville 1, Fontbonne 0
Location: St. Louis, Mo.
Records: Maryville 8-4, Fontbonne 0-1
How It Happened
It was a pitcher's batter throughout with Griffins starter Diamond Thomas and Saints hurler Alyssa Callans each having control.
The Griffins threatened in the second with Thomas and Melanie Russo each hitting consecutive singles with one out. However, Callans retired the final two batters on strikeouts to end the threat.
It remained a scoreless game up until the home half of the fifth. Bri Livingston stepped in with one out and hit a solo shot to right field to break the tie. That'd be the lone run needed as the Saints went on for the victory.
Fontbonne Notables
- Thomas took the tough loss as she went the distance, allowing the one run on eight hits.
- Emelia Modglin, Thomas, and Russo had the hits for the Griffins.
Maryville Notables
- Callans was the story for Maryville as she picked up her fourth win on the year and struck out 14 Griffins.
- Jaclyn Pasakarnis led in the hits department with two.
