Softball Falls In Two Close Contests Against Huntingdon
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Fontbonne University softball team fell 5-3 in game one and 4-3 in game two against Huntingdon on Saturday afternoon.

Game One
Final: Huntingdon 5, Fontbonne 3

Records: Huntingdon 9-4, Fontbonne 0-8
How It Happened
In the first, the Griffins got on the board. Grace Harlin reached base on a bunt single and moved up to third on a throwing error. She was able to come on home on Maddy Strickland's RBI single to give them the 1-0 lead.
In the third, the Hawks took a 2-1 advantage on an error by the Griffins. Fontbonne, though went on to tie the game in the next half inning.
Emelia Modglin led off with a walk. After consecutive singles from Strickland and Melanie Russo, the bases were loaded for Lexi Becker. She came through with an RBI single that scored Modglin to tie the game.
The Hawks took the lead back in the bottom half, but Fontbonne responded in the fifth. Diamond Thomas led off with a single and she raced home on Grace Harlin's RBI double.
However, in the bottom of the fifth, the Hawks took the lead back for good. With two on and one out, McKenzie Ridgway ripped a triple to right-center, plating two and giving them a 5-3 lead. Madison Hunt was able to shut Fontbonne down the rest of the way for the win.
Fontbonne Notables
- The Griffins finished with nine hits and were led by Harlin with her season-high three hits, to go along with a run scored and RBI.
- Strickland finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.
- Inside the circle, Thomas allowed five runs (two earned) on seven hits and struck out two.
Huntingdon Notables
- Hunt picked up the win after allowing three runs (two earned) on nine hits and sat down five.
- Offensively, Ridgway led with a 2-for-3 performance and two RBI.
Game Two
Final: Huntingdon 4, Fontbonne 3

Records: Huntingdon 10-4, Fontbonne 0-9
How It Happened
Things started out well once again for Fontbonne in the first. Harlin reached base on a one out error and eventually made her way over to third with two outs.
After a walk to Modglin, the duo executed a double steal with Harlin scoring to make it a 1-0 game. The Hawks committed another error allowing Russo to reach base and Modglin to touch home to give them a 2-0 advantage.
The Hawks got a run back in the bottom of the first, but Fontbonne plated another in the fourth. Becker hit a one out double to right-center and she scored on Daisy Watkins RBI double of her own to give them a 3-1 lead.
The Hawks, though tie the game in the bottom of the fourth on RBI from MacKenzie Smelley and Rayne Ellis. In the fifth, Madison Perryman hit a two out triple and she scored on Caitlyn Caffee's RBI single.
Fontbonne threatened in the sixth with two on and one out, but Lauren Melton was able to get out of the jam and hang on for the 4-3 win.

- Strickland suffered the loss allowing four runs (three earned) on 11 hits and striking out four.
- Thomas, Russo, Becker, and Watkins each recorded a hit.
Huntingdon Notables
- Melton improved to 3-1 as she allowed three runs (one earned) and struck out six.
- Ellis, Hannah Vines, and Perryman had two hits each.
