Softball Drops Pair Against Webster
ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Fontbonne University softball team dropped a couple of tough games on Tuesday with the Griffins falling 7-5 in game one and 3-2 (9 inn.) in game two in the Strikeout Breast Cancer game.

Game One
Score: Webster 7, Fontbonne 5

Records: Webster 5-18 (2-7 SLIAC), Fontbonne 7-18 (5-6 SLIAC)
How It Happened
After Webster got on the board in the home half of the first to take a 1-0 lead, the Griffins answered in a big way in the second.
After a walk and consecutive singles, the bases were loaded for Gracie Morris. She came through with an RBI single that brought home Diamond Thomas to tie the game.
Two batters later, Lexi Becker singled up the middle to plate Melanie Russo and Morris to extend the lead out to 3-1. Grace Harlin added an RBI groundout to give Fontbonne a three-run lead.
Webster got two of those runs back in the third on an RBI double from Taylor Jackson and she went on to score later in the inning to trim the deficit down to 4-3.
Russo, though tacked on an RBI single up the middle in the fifth, plating Alyssa Pisarek, to put Fontbonne ahead 5-3. However, the Gorloks tied it at 5-5 on Darian Morlan's two RBI double and capped the comeback off with a two-run homer in the sixth off the batt of Abby Burroughs to make it a 7-5 final.
Fontbonne Notables
- Emelia Modglin stayed hot at the dish going 3-for-4.
- Becker went 1-for-4 with two RBI.
- Melanie Russo finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and one RBI.
- Becker fell to 2-5 on the year after allowing two runs on 1.0 innings of work.
Webster Notables
- Burroughs and Jackson combined to go 6-for-8 with five runs scored and three RBI.
- Breelyn Craig got the win out of the pen going 3.0 innings and striking out two.
Game Two
Score: Webster 3, Fontbonne 2 (9 inn.)

Records: Webster 6-18 (3-7 SLIAC), Fontbonne 7-19 (5-7 SLIAC)
How It Happened
Webster was able to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from Taylor Jackson. Fontbonne went on to tie the game in the sixth and eventually grabbed a one-run lead in the eighth.
Thomas was placed on second in extra innings and with two outs Morris hit a single up the middle to give the Griffins a 2-1 lead. However, Jackson kept the game going for the Gorloks in the bottom half with an RBI single of her own.
After a scoreless top half, the Gorloks walked it off with an RBI single from Morlan for the 3-2 victory.
Fontbonne Notables
- Thomas, Harlin, Modglin and Morris each had hits for the Griffins.
- Becker did what she could on the rubber going 8.1 innings, allowing three runs (one earned) and sitting down one.
Webster Notables
- Jackson and Morlan had three hits apiece.
- Craig earned her second straight win in as many games. Starter Arianna Arias got the no-decision after going 8.0 innings, allowing one earned run and striking out four.
