FULTON, Mo.—The No. 1 seeded Fontbonne University softball team stayed in the winners bracket on Thursday after Grace Paez came through with a two RBI base hit in the bottom of the seventh allowing the Griffins to go on for the 2-1 walk-off win over No. 5 Iowa Wesleyan.
How It Happened
It was a pitcher's dual between Iowa Wesleyan's Morgan Christner and Fontbonne's starter Abby Richmond.
It remained a scoreless game up until the top of the seventh when Ivy Geerdes, who reached base on a fielder's choice, scored on a passed ball giving them a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh, back-to-back one out errors put the Griffins in business. Lexi Becker followed with a single to left loading up the bases. After a line out, Paez stepped in and ripped a single to left-center scoring Madison Galczynski and Logan Darrow for the one-run win.
