Fontbonne Softball Season Comes To A Close In The SLIAC Semifinals
FULTON, Mo.—The No. 1 seeded Fontbonne University softball team saw its 2021 season come to an unfortunate end on Friday falling 6-4 in game one against Webster and 7-3 against Spalding in the elimination game of the SLIAC Tournament.

At the conclusion of the tournament, Lexi Becker and Grace Paez were named to the All-Tournament Team.

How It Happened
The Gorloks took a 1-0 lead in the first and expanded it out to 3-0 in the third with Abby Burroughs and Breelyn Craig each bringing home an RBI.
In the fourth, the Gorloks continued to add onto its lead scoring three more in the fourth to own a 6-0 advantage. Fontbonne got one of those runs back in the bottom of the fourth with Patience Vandermierden coming through with an RBI single to right scoring Madison Galczynski.
In the fifth, the Griffins plated two with Lexi Becker and Lilly Jones each reaching base on an error and fielder's choice. Two batters later, Grace Harlin came through wit ha single scoring the duo to put Fontbonne down three.
Fontbonne threatened in the seventh with Hannah Miener's groundout allowing pinch-runner Sara Joines to score but the Gorloks got the final out on the ensuing batter for the win.
Fontbonne Leaders
- Becker, Galczynski, and Vandermierden each had two hits.
- Harlin led in the RBI department with two.
- Jones, Grace Paez, and Gracie Morris had one hit.
- Abby Richmond fell to 8-5 allowing two earned runs in 3.2 innings of work.

How It Happened
The Golden Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the first but the Griffins answered right back in the bottom half. Lexi Becker and Lilly Jones each reached base on singles. Later with two outs, Madison Galczynski plated Jones with an RBI single to tie the game.
In the third, the Golden Eagles grabbed a 4-1 lead scoring three runs on two hits capped off by Madison Loechle's two RBI triple.
In the bottom half, Harlin led off and hit her first collegiate homer to right-center trimming the Spalding lead down to 4-2.
The Griffins got it down to 4-3 in the fifth but in the seventh the Golden Eagles scored three more runs with Bella Velez's two run homer giving them a 7-3 advantage. Velez went on to retire the side in the bottom half of the inning to secure the victory.

- Jones and Harlin both had two hits and a run scored with Harlin adding an RBI.
- Becker fell to 3-4 on the year going 5.0 innings and allowing one earned run.
