Softball Shuts Out Webster in Game One of Doubleheader; Secures Second Seed in SLIAC Tournament
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Fontbonne University softball team blanked Webster University in the first game of the doubleheader but fell short in the second game.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Fontbonne University softball team blanked Webster University in the first game of the doubleheader but fell short in the second game.
The team ended the season with a 22-16 record on the season and 13-5 in SLIAC play.
Today's win secured the second seed in the SLIAC Tournament as well as the first-round bye and the Griffins will advance straight into the semifinals that will take place at Louisville Sports Complex in Peoria, Illinois.
Game One
The Griffins blanked Webster, 5-0.
On the bottom of the third, Ashley Carrow hit a double to right field bringing home Mackenzie Howell.
On the bottom of the fourth, Mackenzie Howell hit a three RBI double to left field to score Brenna Foley, Madelyn Holtmeyer, and Jaynanne Roate to increase the Griffins' lead to 4-0.
On the bottom of the fifth, Ellie Bartlett hit a single to first base and Ashley Carrow scored on an error.
Hailey Kutz (9-4) pitched the complete game and took the win. She struck out five and allowed four hits.
Game Two
The Griffins fell to Webster, 7-4.
Webster started off scoring five runs on the top of the first inning to take a 5-0 lead.
On the bottom of the first, Ashley Carrow hit a two RBI double to center field to bring home Grace Paez and Allysa Ibarra.
Webster responded with two more runs on the top of the second to increase the lead by five once again, 7-2.
On the bottom of the fourth, Patience Vandermierden hit a single to shortstop to bring home Ashley Carrow.
On the top of the fifth, Grace Paez hit a triple to right field to score Allysa Ibarra to end the game 7-4.
Abby Alonzo (4-6) took the loss on the mound. She pitched 1.2 innings and allowed seven hits and seven runs. Kami Matthews pitched 5.1 innings and struck out three while allowing six hits.

The #2 Griffins will face the second lowest advancing seed in the SLIAC Tournament on Thursday, May 11 at Louisville Sports Complex in Peoria, Illinois. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
