Softball Selected Second in SLIAC Preseason Poll
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Fontbonne University softball team was selected to finish second in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll, announced the conference office this Wednesday afternoon.
"We are super excited to get this season started," stated Head Coach Roni Knittig. "We brought in great student-athletes to the roster this year. Jillian Mengel, Macy Brown and Karmen Daniels bring energy and skills to the line up. The new additions to the SLIAC will keep the coference tough and competitive."
The Griffins finished last season with a 25-18 overall record and 13-5 in conference play. Their season came to a close in the finals of the SLIAC Tournament as the runner up.
The team returns 16 players and welcome three newcomers.
Fontbonne opens their season on Friday, Feb. 23 as they host a spring tournament in Edwardsville, Illinois. They will play Carroll (Wis.) at 3 p.m. followed by Hope at 5 p.m. Their schedule features 43 games with 21 at home. They begin conference play on Saturday, Mar. 30 with a doubleheader at Lyon. Game times are set for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Ashley Carrow, Hailey Kutz, Kami Matthews, and Grace Paez were named to the SLIAC Softball Preseason Watch List.
