Griffins Softball Splits with Westminster in SLIAC Opener

ST. ANN, Mo. – The Fontbonne University softball team took game one of the doubleheader against the Westminster College Blue Jays in their conference opener this afternoon.

The Griffins move to 4-9 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

The Blue Jays move to 5-17 on the season and 1-1 in league play.

Game One

The Griffins defeated Westminster, 3-1

• Ashley Carrow went 2-for-3 and added one RBI.
• Macy Brown hit a triple, drove in one run and scored one run.
• Jillian Mengel recorded one RBI.
• Karmen Daniels recorded one hit and one run.
• Grace Paez had one hit, while Kassidy Crisco scored one run.
• Sam Foppe earned the win in the circle. She pitched a complete game and struck out five while allowing three hits and one run.

Game Two

The Griffins fell to Westminster, 12-4

• Macy Brown, Ashley Carrow and Karmen Daniels each went 2-for-3
• Kassidy Chrisco, Brown and Daniels each drove in one run
• Brown, Sam Foppe, Brenna Foley and Madelyn Holtmeyer each scored one run
• Brown hit one homer
• Abby Alonzo took the loss on the circle. In 3.2 innings pitched, she allowed 13 hits and seven runs.
• Hannah Borgmeyer pitched 1.1 inning. She allowed two hits and four runs.
• The Blue Jays outscored the Griffins, 15-10.
