Horneker sets PR in mile time
St. Louis- The Griffins traveled to Augustana College last weekend to compete in the Viking Olympics. The field consisted of top D III athletes and Fontbonne stayed right in the mix.
Opening for the Griffins was Claire Becker (O'Hara, Kansas City, MO) in her second Steeplechase. Becker improved on her previous time and placed 6th in the race.
The final four racers all competed in the mile and 800 meter races. Junior Alyssa Tonner (Trinity Catholic, St. Louis, MO) came out highly competitive in the Mile, running a time of 5:00 and placing 2nd overall. Sophomore Justin Horneker (St. Mary's, St. Louis, MO) also ran a blazing mile time of 4:11, running a stunning last lap and setting a PR. "I looked up at the clock, and knew I had to get moving. I just dug deep and went for it."
Freshman Cristian Sellars (Southwest HS, Washburn, MO) and junior Jessica Brock (Long Beach Poly, CA) both ran respectable races in their own right.
The Griffins will take Easter break off and come back in two weeks for the WashU Select Meet.
