Tonner breaks 5000m school record
St. Louis- Despite soggy conditions and chilly weather, the Griffins took to the track at North Central College in Naperville, IL.
Junior Alyssa Tonner (Trinity Catholic, St. Louis, MO) started the meet with the 5000 meter, and set another personal and school record at the distance, closing in with 18:08.12. Tonner also competed in the 1500 meter. Junior Jessica Brock (Long Beach Poly, CA) raced the 800 meter run, pushing herself well, and finished with a very strong last lap. Freshman Claire Becker (O'Hara, Kansas City, MO) once again competed in the steeplechase. Even with having to hurdle an uneven water pit, Becker was only 3 seconds away from breaking the 13 minute mark.
The men's side of the track saw Sophomore Justin Horneker (St. Mary's, St. Louis, MO) competing in the 5000m as well as the 1500. Senior Shea Naes (Fox Senior High, Arnold, MO) competed in the 400m as well as the 800m, giving his best for what would be his last track meet as a Griffin. The star of the men's athletes goes to freshman Cristian Sellars (Southwest HS, Washburn, MO), for his 800 meter race. Sellars was able to drop an entire second off his previous season's best, coming in at 2.03 for the distance.
The Griffins will head back to Naperville next weekend for the Second Last Chance meet of the season.
