Personal and Seasonal Bests posted at Illinois College
Jacksonville, Ill.-In a low-key Friday evening meet at Illinois College, the Fontbonne track teams set many personal and seasonal bests. For many, the meet marked the end of the indoor track season, as only a few will compete at the Carthage College Last Chance meet in two weeks. "Everyone is a lot more fit than they were five weeks ago when the season started. It was good to see everyone capitalize on their training before going back into a rebuilding phase for the outdoor season," said Coach Kelli Blake.
Becca Buehler set the tone for the Griffins by winning the 400m, bettering her 400m time from two weeks ago by almost two seconds. Her time of 63.79 was a lifetime best and ranks in the top five of the Fontbonne Indoor All-Time List. Fellow sprinter Doan Trieu also improved his 60m time from the previous week by two-tenths of a second. "Becca and Doan had a great week of practice and it carried into competition," said sprints coach Myreon Sartin. "They competed with confidence and it showed in their performances."
On the distance side of things, Olivia Beggs raced to a 29 second season best in the 3,000m, finishing in a time of 11:40. Beggs ticked off even splits throughout the entire race finishing with a strong last lap to capture third place. Jessica Brock ran a five second seasonal best to finish 6th in the 800m.
Those not running at the Carthage Last Chance Meet will open up the outdoor season at the Wash. U. Mini Meet on March 21st.
