Track caps off strong indoor season at Carthage

Kenosha, Wis. - Griffin track capped off the indoor season on Friday at the Carthage Final Qualifier. The team posted several solid performances to carry their upward momentum into the outdoor season.
Senior Justin Horneker ran the final 3,000-meter run of his career in 9:15.05, a personal best. Going into the race, Horneker's previous 3,000-meter personal best was just two-tenths of a second behind Zach Kassman's school record of 9:19.11 from 2009. A 31-second final lap secured him with 4th place in the race and the school record.
Becca Buehler placed 6th in the 55-meter dash, running 7.97 seconds in the final. In the 200-meter dash, Buehler posted a time of 27.72 seconds, a 0.2 second personal best. In the women's 3,000, Claire Becker ran 12:19.58, a seasonal best. Cathy Maschmeyer ran 12:50.07 in her first race effort since the cross country season.
Those running track for the first time continue to see big improvements. Taylor McGowen improved her 200-meter dash personal best to 30.63 seconds. Annie McKenzie ran her first event over 800 meters, posting a time of 6:16.78 in the mile run.
The team will open up the outdoor season at the Washington University Mini Meet on Friday, March 20th.
