Steady improvement is the name of the game for Griffins track at Greenville Select
Greenville, Ill. - A contingent of the Griffin track team competed at the Greenville Select Meet on Saturday.
The meet was highlighted by Becca Buehler's performance in the 400-meter hurdles. The sophomore took 5th place in 66.59 seconds in her second 400-meter hurdle race of the season. Her time was over one second better than her personal best from last season and currently ranks 45th on the Division III national performance list.
Justin Horneker earned Griffin athlete-of-the-meet honors with a heat win and personal best in the men's 1500-meter run. His time of 4:11.25 was just a half a second better than his personal best set two years ago, but more importantly he competed well to win the second heat of the 1500 by a four second margin.
Also in the 1500, Cristian Sellars chipped away two seconds from his seasonal best, running 4:25.99 and pushing the pace of the third heat of the men's 1500. On the women's side in the 1500, Annie McKenzie ran 5:36.63 for a one second personal best. Sophomore and track rookie Jennie Stare ran 2:45.77 in the 800-meter run, her first race for the Griffins since the cross country season.
Dallas Haywood jumped 5.54 meters in the long jump, just .05 meters off of his personal best from last season. Freshman James Wiggins also long jumped, competing in his first track meet for the Griffins. Sophomore Kelly Mundwiller had a solid day in the shot put, throwing 8.95 meters.
Next weekend the Griffins will be competing at the Saint Louis University Billiken Invite on Friday and Saturday, April 10-11th.
