Three School-Record Performances Highlight SLU Invitational
St. Louis, Mo. - Three school records highlighted the Saint Louis University Billiken Invitational for the Griffins track team.
Becca Buehler broke her own school record in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing 3rd out of 8 in a time of 66.08 seconds (37th on the Division III performance list). Dallas Haywood bested his own school record in the long jump. His jump of 6.04 meters (19 feet 9 inches) was a personal best by 50 centimeters. Haywood cemented his athlete-of-the-meet honors for the Griffins after also posting a big personal best in the 100-meter dash. The women established a new school record in the 4X400-meter relay. The team of Becca Buehler, Gabi Cruts, Taylor McGowen, and Jennie Stare ran 4:31.62. While all members of the relay gave a great team effort, McGowen's leg was particularly gutsy as she split two seconds faster than her open 400-meter personal best.
On the men's side, Cristian Sellars ran 4:27.65 in the men's 1500-meter run, after leading his heat into the wind for two laps. Justin Horneker ran just off of his personal best in the 5,000-meter run, finishing in 16:14.97. James Wiggins jumped a 47 centimeter personal best at 5.29 meters while Clayton Bond posted a time of 56.46 seconds in the 400-meter dash.
On the women's side, Gabi Cruts ran a seasonal best of 13.26 seconds in the 100-meter dash. Jennie Stare ran 2:47.70 in the 800-meter run. Olivia Beggs ran her first outdoor 5,000-meter run, running 19:54.17 after falling off a quick early pace in the fast heat. In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Claire Becker ran 12:55.56 for a two-second personal best.
Next Friday, April 17th, the Griffins head to the Rose Hulman Twilight Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana.
