Venegas named SLIAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week
The freshman powered to a second-place finish at the Montevallo Falcon Classic in the discus, destroying her old record by six meters. She currently leads all women's SLIAC throwers in the shot put and is 21st in NCAA Division III.
St. Louis, Mo. - Fontbonne University track and field freshman Raven Venegas was named Women's Field Player of the Week according to the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for the week of March 27, 2017.
Venegas (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) took second place out of 30 throwers at the Montevallo Falcon Classic this past weekend in Discus. Her throw of 35.22m crushed her old mark of 29.04m, setting a new school record. She also threw a school-record 37.26m in the Hammer Throw and achieved the best freshmen throw in the Javelin (25.10m).
Venegas also owns the top Shot Put record, which she threw in her outdoor collegiate debut at the Rhodes Invitational. Her throw of 12.19m is currently the highest mark among SLIAC competitors, third in the Midwest Region and is 21st among all NCAA Division III women's competitors.
