Track and Field concludes season at Gregory Final Qualifier
Naperville, Ill. - Fontbonne University track and field concluded their outdoor season at North Central College this past weekend.
The highlight of the meet was freshman Katie Gosser breaking her own school records in the women's heptathlon and 100 meter hurdles. She finished the heptathlon totaling 2962 points which is ranked 42nd in the Midwest Region and 146th nationally.
Kayla Sheldon achieved two personal bests in the meet for the 200 meter and 400 meter dashes. Austin Lawrence, Sarah Rhoads, and Raven Venegas also competed at the meet.
Venegas, who was making an attempt at qualifying for Division III National Championships, did not get an opportunity to compete in the shot put. She will finish the season ranked 14th in the Midwest Region and 43rd nationally. Venegas is the 10th best freshman in the country in the shot put and Gosser is the 44th best freshman in the country in the heptathlon.
During the 2016-2017 track and cross country seasons, the teams broke 70 school records, garnered four SLIAC Athletes of the Week, two ALL-SLIAC Academic honorees, two SLIAC Outdoor Track & Field Champions, the SLIAC Female Field Newcomer of the Year, and for the second year in a row received USTFCCCA All-Academic distinction for Women's Cross Country. Both the men's and women's outdoor teams were also awarded the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Team Awards.
The 2017-2018 cross country season will kick-off at the Western Illinois Early Bird, September 1, 2017 in Macomb, Ill.
